The right property for your lifestyle
You will no doubt have an idea of the type of property you would like to buy, whether it is on a resort or new development; an older property which has been renovated; an individual property with its own land near a town or the beach, or a quiet location in the countryside. Whatever your choice, think about how you will use your property and always bear in mind factors such as maintenance and accessibility, which may be important, depending whether you intend to reside here permanently or plan to rent out for part of the year.
It is important to remember that if you wish to be centrally located, near to the beach, a town etc., you must expect heavy traffic resulting from the influx of visitors from the north of Portugal and Europe who, during the summer months (especially in August), come to enjoy the Algarve’s beaches.
If it is something more peaceful you are looking for, then it may be worth turning your sights a little further inland, where more rural properties can generally be purchased for lower prices. However, it should be remembered that these properties often do not have the benefit of infrastructures such as mains water, drainage & sewage systems, relying instead on boreholes or water collection tanks for the water supply and septic tanks for sewage waste. This is generally not a problem, but the water supply must be borne in mind when planning a garden, as it may be necessary to apply for permission to drill a bore hole to provide the water required for irrigation.
Also available are new development properties, which are showing strong growth and sell quickly off-plan, often more suited to those who are seeking to add to their investment portfolio. |
